To początek Twojej przygody z retro kolarstwem
Polonika is a unique event that combines a passion for cycling with a love for the history of Polish cycling—and much more. Participants, equipped with bicycles from past decades, set off on a full-scale, designated route to explore picturesque landscapes together while experiencing the spirit of the past.
The Retro Ride is not only a sporting event but also a cultural celebration aimed at reviving cycling traditions from bygone eras. Participants have the opportunity to showcase themselves in elegant vintage attire, giving the ride its distinctive charm. Retro-style bicycles—often meticulously restored by hand—symbolize attention to detail and a deep respect for history.
The heart of the event beats in Podlasie. Why here?
Here, we found something truly special—a spark of inspiration we had not encountered anywhere else. Picturesque landscapes, soothing tranquility, one of Europe’s last wild rivers—the Bug, distinctive wooden architecture, exquisite local cuisine, and, most of all, the unparalleled hospitality of the locals. The Nadbużańskie Podlasie region is a true gem that deserves recognition, especially during a leisurely journey that lets us experience it to the fullest. Our time machines? Vintage bicycles.
The Polonika Ride route begins in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, and after a manual ferry crossing over the Bug River, transitions into the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. As the locals here say, “The Bug unites, not divides.”

The 1st Edition of the Polonika Retro Cycling Ride took place on August 12-13, in the area of Nadbużańskie Podlasie, covering a total distance of 115 km along the Bug River.
Inspired by the spirit of the past and the tradition of travel, this event aims to promote physical activity and showcase the scenic beauty of the region. Participants had the opportunity to experience an unforgettable adventure, traveling back to the times when cycling was a popular means of transportation.
The ride not only focused on physical activity but also on promoting the cultural and historical heritage of the Nadbużańskie Podlasie region. Thanks to the carefully planned route along the Bug River, participants had the chance to admire beautiful landscapes and historical landmarks while enjoying culinary delights at rest stops and outdoor activities. Polonika 2023 had 60 participants.
"Naturally by the Bug" is an initiative that presents Nadbużańskie Podlasie in a holistic way—as a historical, cultural, and, most importantly, a business community. The project acts as a bridge connecting entrepreneurs from the Bug River valley who specialize in local products and services, collaboratively creating a single brand that is recognized both by the local population and by residents of other regions in Poland.
On a smaller scale, "Naturally by the Bug" is part of a strategy to build local patriotism, with the core principle being the support of domestic businesses. On a national scale, by developing a comprehensive product, service, and trade offering, the project responds to noticeable changes in consumer behavior, emphasizing knowledge of the product (its origin, degree of processing, and the quality associated with it), aligning with the global slow food and slow life movements.
The creation of "Naturally by the Bug" as a model of collaboration and a system of mutual recommendations for goods and services inspired the establishment of the Local Tourism Organization "LOT nad Bugiem".
